I feel proud in heading an Institution which is the birthplace of the Borderman. This Alma Mater of Borderman, located at Tekanpur,Gwalior, was founded in Feb 1966. Tekanpur conjures up an image of an oasis in the rocky and barren terrain surrounding the State of Gwalior, caught the fancy of the Scindias’ in the early 20th century. The various forts, palaces, temples and network of canals bear ample testimony to their love for fine arts which was in contrast to their martial credentials. In the year 1910, Maharaja Madhao Rao Scindia, constructed a 875 metre long and 17.7 metre high dam with a catchment area of 64.75 sq Kms, thus came “Band Tal”, the lake, into being. A tranquil retreat. During winters the Band Tal plays host to various migratory birds, the most important being the ‘Siberian Crane’.

The prime objective of BSF Academy is to prepare mentally robust and physically tough sentinels, as well as vibrant, courageous and dynamic leaders of the force who, with their behavior and actions, would be successful in providing a sense of security and well being of the people living on the borders. Borderman with their devotion and dedication, sincerity and honesty have lived up to their promises. They have displayed highest degree of Commitments and responded well to all the occasions wherever and whenever its employment and engagement were felt necessary by the Govt.
The Academy has come a long way and developed manifold since its inception. Today, the Academy has excellent infrastructure which is used for all round development of the trainee officers, subordinate officers and in-service officers who visit us to undergo various command related and Senior Management courses. The training activities at Academy not only transform a civilian into a physically tough and mentally robust Borderman, but also instill in him the high values of character building and a sense of responsibility. To achieve these objectives, personality development, bonding with colleagues, team building, sportsmanship, social etiquettes and all that goes in the making of a fine well groomed gentleman officer are emphasized during training. The BSF Academy today is one of the finest training Institutions for officers and subordinate officers of all Police Forces of the country.
