Realizing the importance of horse riding as an important operational need as well as to improve the personality of the officers, Equitation School was established in Academy in 1974 with ten horses. By 1977, BSF Equestrian Team was also raised. Today, BSF Equitation School has 35 horses which are engaged in imparting riding training to the Officers and SOs of basic courses as well as participating in various National level competitions.

HC Jaswinder Singh and Ct Nihal Singh of BSF Equestrian Team participated in Internstional Tent Pegging at Muscat and won 3 Gold Medals (Individual) during Feb' 2007. BSF Academy has a proud privilege of hosting All India Police Equestrian Meet four times in 1978, 1879, 1999 and 2004. BSF Team has won the AIPEM on the trot from 1976 to 1985 and then in 1999 and 2004. Achievements of BSF Equestrian Team for the year 2006-07 are given as under:
