The basic training of direct entry Sub-Inspectors has been organized at BSF Academy since the inception of the Force. Now the group is also imparting basic training to Sub Inspector (Limited Departmental Competitive Examination). The basic training of Sub-Inspectors is organized in such a way that they acquire necessary knowledge, skills, altitudes and behaviour required for effectively discharging the duties of Platoon Commanders.

The faculty is a team of committed instructors, which is headed by an officer of the rank of Commandant. The team has been drawn from the force on the basis of their excellence in operational and training activities. The team has been organized in such a way that round the clock supervision is kept over young entrants to imbibe certain habits and attitudes.
The Group is been well equipped with state of art indoor and out door training activities. It has well equipped lecture halls/auditoriums, indoor reflex shooting range, Computer laboratory, Gymnastics and other training/sports facilities.
